Last weekend saw me lose valuable blogging time, as along with the rest of CEEB I retreated to Lost Valley, a commune just outside of Eugene. Yes, the rumours are true: we did have to stand in a circle holding hands and singing before our meals. But what's wrong with that, I ask you?
Obviously these bonding sessions have the potential to be excruciatingly tedious; I probably need only mention the poster session and the getting-to-know-you game, to give you some idea. But it was all surprisingly fun. Jessica (my boss) decided that our lab poster should make an impact, so we went all multimedia and stuff. And the getting-to-know-you game was pretty good for...getting to know people. What a turn up.
The remainder of the weekend looks to be taken up with two shows. Tomorrow I'm seeing Bright Eyes accompanied by my new friend, AA, and tonight it's Black Moth Super Rainbow...perhaps this will give you some idea:
Song of the day (14)
UPDATE: check out our lab's poster/video
SECOND UPDATE: apparently the video is storming the science blogosphere, here and here and here so far. Hmmm.

Nice choreography! What's the last shot of, just as it cuts off? It looks like an upside down doll in a tree :-S
Glad you liked it!
The last shot? That's actually a good question. At the end of the video we originally had a series of stills of people doing field work (not me, obviously; I don't go together well with fields).
So I guess it's one of those shots, but it's not completely clear why it looks like a doll upside-down in a tree. Hmmm.
Maximizing entropy? So how does that work?
Try it! It's easier to do than you might think.
