Sandy Barbara

I'm writing having just returned from a lovely day trip to the Oregon coast. Clam chowder, Pacific waves, setting sun, more stars than you can shake a stick at. Basically, good.

The coastal visit followed a busy week, most of which was spent avoiding fires in Santa Barbara, while also unifying ecology with the help of some colleagues. Of course, we didn't succeed in the latter, but if we had then I'd have nothing to do for the rest of my postdoc. So maybe that's for the best. In any case, the meeting did give me some ideas for interesting research projects, and more importantly the chance to meet some huge ballers in the field.

The busy week was rounded off watching the Oregon Ducks at a sunny Autzen stadium, yesterday. It was pretty much an all-day affair, with tailgating starting at 9am or so and the game finishing up in the late afternoon. What's more, my first ever football game turns out to be the biggest game of the season so far, with Oregon squeezing past rivals USC 24-17, to climb to fourth in the national rankings. Go Ducks!
