Hallowing

Obviously, Hallowe'en isn't a big deal in England. That much is obvious. I did go trick-or-treating one year, and I remember a woman shouting at us for offending Jesus. But here in America, not even the tightest part of the bible belt would reject Hallowe'en. It's just a national institution.

And the most important expression of the institution? Of course, it's the costume. An opportunity for the most conservative of women to dress in the skimpiest of clothing, and indeed an opportunity for your favourite physicist-turned-ecologist to get all craft-y.

The result? Pac-man! This shot probably doesn't do justice to the costume, but I think you can see that it was very yellow, and very unwieldy:

And yes, the look on my face is supposed to be frightening. It was Hallowe'en.

I've just heard a country version of the Smiths classic `What difference does it make', but can't find it online as yet. So that must wait, mesmerising as it is. In the meantime, how about some Port O'Brien?

Song of the day (18)

And I think I have to link to this amazing track from Karen Dalton. Apparently she was a big influence on the Dylan. Anyway, thanks to the girl whose surname is her username for passing it on to me.
