It's not completely clear that I should like this band, and maybe it'd be more sensible to leave them for the (NME-reading) kids. But...there's something about The Cribs which has grown on me, so last night I took myself up to Portland with Allison to see them play the Doug Fir Lounge. Described by Q magazine as `the biggest cult band in the UK', it was kind of cool to see them play a tiny venue, standing about three feet away from us. And man, they rocked out. I think brother drummer is unlikely to avoid an aneurysm if he carries on that way. The same goes for the whole band---and on top of sheer physical exertion, it must be exhausting to be in an indie band that hates the indie scene so very much. All that anger!

As you know by now, Oregon is a cool place, and The Cribs bassist agrees with me. He's abandoned post-industrial Yorkshire for Portland, and nowadays adorns his guitar with `I love OR' stickers. I know where he's coming from. Plus, if you live here you get to meet Johnny Marr at barbecues.
I'm glad I'm not a mirror-kissing hipster. Or am I?
