First, a couple of weeks back, the mighty Cat Power took the stage at the McDonald Theatre here in town. The thing with The Power is that her voice is so compelling, she doesn't necessarily need to pay any attention to writing good songs. That's a little unfair of me, since she's written a few great tunes...but there's this sense that she could husk her way through the proverbial phonebook and still put on a good show. Whatever...with that voice, who cares?
Then, during the past week Allison and I made it a full, fey Juno celebration by checking out Kimya Dawson, nee Moldy Peaches, at the Indigo District. There were a lot of starstruck Eugenian indie-kids there, bless 'em, and Kimya also put on a good show. A cute show. I wonder if she's still kind of a kid herself, but maybe there's no harm in that.
Ohmygod I'm so excited. Something I've spoken about for a while is about to happen. More news on that in the next blog post!
