Cut Me I Bleed Obsidian

As is sometimes the case, I had an eventful weekend. It begins with our adventure on the Obsidian trail last week, to celebrate the return of Not-Boss-Jess. Was anyone wondering whether Oregon was beautiful? It is. For example, this colourful mountain is Middle Sister, viewed from our trail:

And here we all are in the shady forest below the mountains, looking happy taking a break:

Finally, The Liz, walking through a field of Obsidian. Had to get some Obsidian in there somewhere.

Still, beautiful scenery can mitigate only so much, and things took a turn for the worse when we turned in the wrong direction, extending a ten mile day-hike to a twenty mile day-night hike. There was beef jerky to sustain us, and a stunning full moon to act as guide. But by the time I got to bed at 3am I was ready for sleep.

I was less ready for getting up at 8am the next morning, to travel to Lake Arrowhead for a genomics conference, with The Liz and Visiting Spaniard Albert. Arrowhead was very beautiful also, in a man-made, populated by movie-stars a long time ago kind of way. But we had quite a journey to make it there. Missed connections abounded, and eventually we found ourselves in a taxi at midnight, driven by a McCain-supporting born-again Christian `former gangster' from Indonesia. By the time we got to the conference center, I was once again ready for sleep.

All good things must come to an end, and after many pork ribs and a little inappropriateness, Visiting Spaniard Albert is leaving for his home-town of Barcelona.

Adios Hermanos.

Maybe the most romantic song I've heard for a while. Scout Niblett and Will Oldham provide. It took a couple of listens, but I love it.
